Magic Move

What is the Magic Move?
The magic move came from Harvey Penick Little Red Book written in 2012. I don't own the book but I've stumbled on his teaching on the School of Golf last summer. The magic move is simply returning your right elbow to the side on the downswing. According to Harvey, if you did that then your golf swing is more efficient. If you google the topic, you will find a lot of golf instructions that will teach you the theory and the practice. Some will say that if you incorporate the magic move into your swing, you will shift your weight more properly, cock your wrist and keep it cocked longer and hit the ball more solid. Doesn't that sound like the ultimate? Keeping your wrists cocked longer and hitting the ball more solid? That seems to be the two things that golfers are looking to do. Is it easy to do? In my opinion, not really. According to our ball striking blueprint, the right elbow is not the first thing that moves on the downswing. The reason is because if you're old school then you are used to starting the downswing by rotating the shoulders and moving your upper body first. Or the some of you start the downswing with your hands and wrists causing a casting motion. Either way works but is counterproductive. With the magic move, you have to return the right elbow to the side then rotate your body with your right elbow affixed to the hip. In my opinion, the golf swing sequence is reversed. That feels strange to say the least. Like all golf lessons, take this to the range and not to the course. Otherwise it will break your swing and ruin your game. It's quite natural to let gravity take place, dropping your club vertically at the top of your backswing. Relax your hands and let the club drop, tucking in your right elbow at your side. When the right elbow is in place, you let the body rotate. It won't feel natural for awhile but when it becomes second nature, you will see how well the ball magically flies. Watch the video below as Tiger Woods and Rory Mcilroy show you how they use the magic move in their powerful swing. |

Be a Rory or a Tiger
If money was no object, I would cruise around a golf course with a golf cart and give away this t-shirt to those big hitters who are in the woods looking for their golf ball. I would be out of t-shirts by the 18th hole because there's so many golfers that this golf t-shirt calls out to. The guys at Shy and Proud T-Shirts sure nailed it when they designed this shirt.
