Golf Clubs

The most sought after clubs by amateurs today seems to be PXG clubs. Part of the reason is because a lot of pros play with PXG clubs and these clubs are quite affordable. You won't find them on the racks at Dick's Sporting Goods or at Golf Town in Canada, instead you will have to go to a select club fitter like Modern Golf where they have to order a set in from PXG USA.
Last year, PXG USA advertised the PXG 0211 irons for as low as $99 a club. I had just snapped the shaft off my Taylormade Burner 2.0 PW and wanted to repair it. Instead of shelling out $130, I decided to pick up a PXG 211 PW to try. The guys at PXG USA were right. Hit one and you will be hooked. Their marketing campaign had worked, at least for me.
When I stepped up to try the PXG 0211 irons, I wanted to hear how hitting the ball sounded and what it feels like in my hands. I first observed that the longer irons had a longer blade length. My club fitter said the offset is slightly more and so is the weight of each blade. The blade length progressively increases from PW to their 5-iron.
After warming up, the first few strikes were not in the sweet spot, so the sound was a little pitchy and the feel was a bit off. This is the kind of club that gives you feedback on mishits. When I finally hit the sweet spot, the sound of the club and feel was solid. The 0211 iron felt different in my hands and according to my club fitter, the ball speed was slightly higher. More consistency would give me 8 yards more on my iron shots. As an amateur, this is big.
According to PXG, this year's 0211 irons are longer and more forgiving than the previous year version. The reason for this improvement is the XCOR2 material which is lighter and supports higher ball speed. It is also slightly heavier around the edges of the iron boosting the MOI by 2%. The result causes less spin, namely 500 RPM less and gives way to being 12 yards longer with a tighter dispersion. The new 2022 PXG 0211 irons are $159 per club.
If you are wondering whether it is worth the money to buy the 0311 irons instead, it is good to know that both the 0211 irons and 0311 irons share the XCOR2 material, Power Channel Technology and the title of being golf's thinnest club face. It is this inclusion that gives the 0211 irons the tremendous ball speed and distance. The noticeable difference is that the PXG 0311 irons allowed the fitter to change the weights on each iron, customizing the loft and trajectory of your shots. If your game commands that kind of control then yes, upgrade to the PXG 0311 irons. Otherwise for most amateurs, the PXG 0211 irons will improve your game substantially. Find a local club fitter in your area and give the PXG clubs a try. You hit 'em, you will want 'em.
