it's a wrap! calgary golf season ends
Thank you Cagary for an exciting golf season. As the season ends here in Calgary, the winter golf season is starting up in Palm Springs and Phoenix. Instead of heating up, temperatures are cooling down to a comfortable temperature more suited for golfing.
Through the winter season, I hope you will continue to join us on our Palm Springs page.
Otherwise you can tune in when golf returns to Calgary next Spring.

earl grey golf course updated
Members of Earl Grey will be happy to hear that their course will reopen in 2018. The course was closed in 2017 to make changes due to the city land reclamation project. Several holes had to be modified to facilitate bike paths along the Glenmore Reservoir.
mccall lake will not be open in 2018
As fall is approaching, try to book a round at McCall Lake and play to your heart's content because McCall Lake will not be part of your golf circuit next year. The City plans to close McCall Lake at the end of the 2017 season to dredge the large lake off hole # 9. The lake was originally 60 feet deep but over the years, the growth of weeds and the lack of cleaning has caused the lake bottom to be at 15 feet at the most. When it rains, the lake easily fills up and the the holes that surround the lake become flooded. Part of the maintenance will be to build up the surrounding holes so that they will be above the lake level. This will prevent the holes from being underwater when a downpour occurs.
How to Play the Short Game
The best way to improve your short game is to play shorter courses. Did you know there are a number of very good to excellent courses in or around Calgary that you can practice your short game? Here is a list of them:
Most executive courses are designed to test your short game using just your mid-irons and wedges. Distances to the green are usually shorter than a full course which means you can leave your driver in the car or at home. Before heading out to the course, check their website and look over the scorecard. Then fill your bag with a selection of clubs that you will use throughout your round.
