Heading to Hawaii? On the Green is now affiliated with Hawaii Tee Times to bring you online tee times booking for almost any course in Kauai, Oahu, Big Island and Maui. Check out our Hawaii section.
Golfers had to wait for a black bear to clear the fairways before teeing off. When you play golf courses around the world, be sure to ask the locals for the wildlife that may frequent the course. Here at the Whistler Golf Club, bears often roam the golf courses. Both grizzly and black bear varieties have been seen on the course. (Thanks to Dan Hamilton for his photo)
do you have a nemesis hole?
Every golfer has a nemesis hole where it seems the golf gods seem to play havoc on the swing or the ball. Do you have a nemesis hole? I do at almost every golf course I play at. There always seem to be a hole that does not lie well with you. It may be a hazard off the tee or a watery grave by the golf green. Whatever it is, swings go haywire, balls get lost and you storm off with a snowman (or an 8).
photo bomb your golf outings
Be sure to take lots of pictures of your buddies or have them take pictures of you when you are teeing it up or take random shots of your swing when you are out on the golf course. If you downloaded the chatbooks app and hooked it up to your facebook account then every time you post a photo, chatbooks will automatically add the photo to a photo book. When you have compiled 60 photos, you can get a 60-page photo book made for just $8 + free shipping.
show me the money
You may think it's your lucky day when you come up to a tee box with a sign that reads $10,000.00 for a hole-in-one. Before you get all excited, look around the golf green and see if you see a spotter. A spotter is someone assigned by the golf course (or tournament host) to stand around the green to witness the hole-in-one. If you don't see a spotter then ignore the potential prize because it doesn't apply to you. (Sorry!) But if you do get the ace, be sure to go to our Hole-in-One section and get registered with the National Hole Registry or you may get something golf related free.
love or hate golf
There's a golf course north of Calgary in the small town of Airdrie that is causing quite a buzz. Golfers who played there, either loves it or hates it. Loretta Apthorp, the tournament coordinator cannot figure it out. Tony Li who organized a tournament there in 2014 knows too well why golfers hate the course so much. "At his tournament, a player lost 10 balls on one hole trying to hit over a creek. If that does not frustrate you, how about losing your tee shot when it rolls into the environmental area?". Before you play there, read our guide first: How to Play Apple Creek GC
when drinking is not allowed
The quickest way to get ejected from a golf course is to bring your own cooler filled with alcoholic beverages. The reason golf courses object to golfers bringing their own drinks is because of their legal obligation. According to the Strathmore Golf Club, they said "their liquor licence does not allow consumption of alcohol not purchased directly from the club and that they cannot check each individual cooler for outside alcohol". There you have it folks. Most golf courses including Strathmore Golf Club provides coolers on their carts for you to keep purchased drinks on ice for anytime drinking while golfing.

kp, closest to pin?
Golf Tournament organizers may not know how to spell because they refer to Closest to Pin with 'KP' instead of 'CP'. Learn how to host a golf tournament in our weekly page.
how to play elevated tees
This month under our How-to section, we will give you the "skinny" on how to play par 3's with elevated tee boxes.

great day of golf
Tournaments can be a lot of fun. Especially ones that raise funds towards a charity or to a good cause. It's a day filled with challenges, drinks, prizes and good company. If you're interested, be sure to check our city pages for a tournament near you. Or if you are hosting a tournament, be sure to check our new section: How to host a Golf Tournament.
playing in the mornings
There are advantages playing early in the morning. Clean air, spectacular sunrises and freshly mowed fairways to name a few. Golf courses encourage early-risers to play at a faster pace and for this reason, morning tee times are not for everyone. If you like a quick round, perhaps before going into work, try booking a round when the course opens. The air is crisp and not polluted. The course is not as busy and there are fewer footprints on the greens.

How to get a Selfie and Autograph at a Golf Tournament
The #1 way to get a selfie and autograph of a PGA or LPGA player is to attend a practice round or Pro-Am. These days are usually on a Tuesday or Wednesday and are prior to the opening round. Cameras and cellphones are allowed but no video cameras.
