Cheap Golf in Hawaii
Anywhere land is scarce, you can expect to pay a pretty dollar for golf. In Hawaii, green fees can run up to $200 easy if you insist on playing by the ocean or having to carry your ball over a bay. One course defies the law that golf has to be expensive in Hawaii but you will have to vacation in Kauai instead of the more popular islands like Oahu or the Big Island.
Kauai is known as the Garden Isle because it is greener and more lush than the other islands. The reason is because the island receives the most rain in Hawaii. There is a spot on Kauai that is known as the 'wettest place on earth' and it sits high up on a mountain top. Luckily for golfers, the terrain is too mountainous to build a golf course on.
On our last visit to Kauai, we ran into Milt who lives in Airdrie, a small town north of Calgary. Milt and his wife were avid golfers and they shared a little secret with us. They told us to play Kukuiolono, an interesting golf course in Kalaheo. If you find it, it is worth checking out because this is the cheapest golf you will ever find in Hawaii.
For just $10, you can play all day. The only caveat is that if you need a cart, you have to pay for it every time you go around. It is a hard course to walk but if you're up to it, you can play and walk all day for just $10.
