Why buy a ball retriever?
We believe a ball retriever is an essential piece of equipment that all golfers should have in their bag.
If you're into saving money then get yourself a ball retriever instead of a new box of balls. Having a ball retriever in your bag will save you at least one ball and even if you don't like fishing other balls from the lake, you can fish out your own ball.
Golfers playing in California may say there is a drought and the lakes are dried up. Having a ball retriever in the desert is invaluable because you can save yourself a snake bite by using a ball retriever to get your ball back from a bush. Instead of risking your arm and reaching for a ball in a bush, a ball retriever can be used to get the ball out.
Most of the time, golfers will use a ball retriever to fish out their ball from the lake. Most ball retrievers are 15 feet long, which in my opinion is long enough for most applications but when golf course architects design lakes, they like making it hard for golfers to get their ball back. In their eyes, it slows down play when golfers fish out golf balls from the lakes.
You don't have to be a fanatic and fish out all the balls in the lake but if there's a gleaming white ball within reach and you have a ball retriever in your bag then by all means, fish it out. Most likely, the group ahead of you dropped the ball into the water hazard and did not have a ball retriever to get it out. If you retrieve it and the ball is clean then grab it with your towel. If it is brown or have things crawling on it, leave it.
